Big School STARS
This January school holidays we ran our ‘Big School STARS’ group. The group was specifically for children who were making the transition to kindergarten this year.
During the course of the week we developed our fine motor skills such as colouring, cutting, handwriting and gluing. We got to make all kinds of fun crafts including rocket launchers, elephant blowers and paddle-pop stick chickens! We also got to practice common transitions that occur throughout the school day including recess, toilet breaks and play time.
Playtime was by far the favourite time of the day as our Big School Stars got to play with new friends, share experiences, and practice gross motor skills that are essential in the playground (such as running, skipping and jumping).
It was such a wonderful experience watching everybody make new friendships, develop their fine and gross motor skills through play and learn how to concentrate and maintain attention in the busy classroom environment.
